One of the most spectacular landscapes in the Atacama Desert: dunes, salt caverns and rock formations sculpted by wind and water that look like the surface of the Moon. It is the classic spot to watch the sunset paint the mountains in red and gold.
From the Gran Duna or the Mirador de Kari (Coyote Stone) you get the best view of the sun setting over the Salt Mountain Range.

From San Pedro de Atacama: 15 km west on Route 23-CH (about 20 min by car, bike or tour). Many agencies in town offer afternoon tours.
Open daily approx. 9:00–18:30. Entry is paid and managed by the local community (ADI Atacama La Grande). Bring cash.
All year round. Days are sunny and dry; nights are cold. Arrive 1.5 hours before sunset to get a good spot.
